Custom cabinetry
In 1925, a young man immigrated to the United States from Sweden. He settled in New Jersey and began working in the lumberyards in Newark. This talented wood-worker was Nils Oberg. Over the next few years, he perfected his cabinetry skills and opened his own small workshop. Then, in 1951, he and fellow dockworker Erik Lindquist decided to start their own business making custom cabinetry. In time, their beautiful workmanship was discovered by GE executives and they offered the two workmen the opportunity to practice their craft and become a GE appliance distributor.
It was a perfect match. Oberg & Lindquist is now the oldest independent GE dealer in the US and has received numerous awards, including the prestigious BrandSource Dealer of the Year (Northeast region) in 2004 and 2006 and The Record's #1 Appliance Dealer award in 2008.
Since those early days, Oberg & Lindquist has prospered and become a destination store for homeowners seeking the best quality products for their living space. Their 6-building complex in Westwood, New Jersey includes a cabinet shop, two warehouses, and a large retail space for appliances with a studio for live cooking demonstrations. Debra Oberg, one of the owners, states, "We wanted to create an area for customers to feel as though they were in their own kitchens and could see chefs using the appliances. Every Saturday we have one to four chefs giving demonstrations."
Oberg & Lindquist employees and owners are dedicated to providing service above all. Debra Oberg says, "We're truly blessed with the people we have. They are part of the Oberg & Lindquist family. We strive to deliver quality products and superb customer service."
